Professor Margaret Stroebe


Professor Margaret Stroebe is Emeritus Professor and a research scholar at the Department of Clinical Psychology, Utrecht University, and at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology at the University of Groningen. She has specialised in bereavement research for many years.

With Henk Schut, she developed the Dual Process Model of Coping with Bereavement. Her co-writing credits include Bereavement in Later Life: Coping, Attachment, and Developmental Influences (2007) and the Handbook of Bereavement Research and Practice: Advances in Theory and Intervention (2009). With Henk Schut and Jan van den Bout, she edited Complicated Grief: Scientific Foundations for Health Care Professionals (2013).

Her honors include an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium; the Scientific Research Award of the American Association of Death Education and Counseling, USA; and the title of Officer of the Order of Orange Nassau, the Netherlands.
